Full-Service Community Schools

The Belmont Full-Service Community Schools Program provides wrap-around education and community services to assist youth and families attending four schools in the Pico-Union/Westlake community of Los Angeles. YPI received one of only ten grants awarded in the U.S. Department of Education’s first round of FSCS. This is a five-year grant in partnership with the Belmont Education Collaborative and other community-based partners.
The program offers streamlined access to existing resources at each school, as well as new programs for students and families in twelve content areas. Based on needs assessments, the program offers mentoring and youth development, academic tutoring and enrichment, service learning, parenting education, adult education, job training and career counseling, nutrition services, primary health and dental care, mental health counseling, and assistance for students who have been truant, suspended, or expelled. The program will also provide professional development for teachers and staff, and referrals for critical services not directly provided by the program and partners.
The Belmont Full-Service Community Schools Program will serve 1,283 students and family members in Year 1, 3,032 in Year 2, 3,272 in Year 3, 3,641 in Year 4, and 4,008 students and family members in Year 5.
