Communities Empowering Youth
Communities Empowering Youth (CEY) partners with five community-based
nonprofit agencies in Los Angeles. Funded by the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services, the Youth Policy Institute works
with these agencies to provide sub grants, training, and technical
services. YPI acts as an intermediary for these funds and resources
which assist agencies in meeting their missions of serving low
income and predominantly Latino youth in the East San Fernando
Valley and Pico Union/Westlake communities of Los Angeles.
The program works with each partner to develop an assessment of
organizational needs, and links with professional trainers to provide
capacity building workshops. These help the partners increase their
organizational capacity and skills in areas such as leadership
development, strategic planning, community engagement, organizational
development, and program development. Cash awards sub granted by
the program help partners in making purchases of computer technology
and other resources (such as financial management or donor management
software) required to implement capacity building goals.
The five agencies partnering with the Youth Policy Institute in
the Communities Empowering Youth project are:
- SALEF (Pico Union/Westlake)
- Fuerza Matrimonial (East San Fernando Valley)
- Communities in Schools (East San Fernando Valley)
- Heroes of Life (East San Fernando Valley)
- Clinica Monsenor Oscar A. Romero (Pico Union/Westlake)
